Music
TCCA offers a variety of musical activities including band, orchestra, special choral groups, and private lessons on stringed instruments, piano, and most band instruments.
Band and Orchestra
There are many wonderful reasons to participate in band or orchestra. Having the skill to perform on a musical instrument has been one of the most cherished accomplishments throughout history. The benefits of playing an instrument are many. Studies have shown that it enhances a student's academic performance in math, language arts, foreign language and other academic areas. Playing an instrument can bring joy and fulfillment like no other activity.
Orchestra is an ensemble composed primarily of the stringed instruments: violin, viola, 'cello, and bass. Band is typically an ensemble composed of brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments. The piano, guitar, and ukulele may accompany either ensemble.
All band and orchestra students will be expected to practice their instruments at home, as well as to attend all rehearsals. The purchase or rental of an instrument is the responsibility of the student’s family. The students will perform for the school’s December and June concerts, and will be encouraged to play for chapel and Matins services.
Elementary Orchestra and Band, Grades 4 - 5
The Elementary Ensembles are offered twice weekly during the school day to students who wish to play an instrument. Music for rehearsal and performance is chosen based on the instrumentation and level of experience of the students in the ensemble. Beginners are welcome to participate along with more experienced students. The class focus will be on the basics of playing the instruments and on note reading.
Middle School Orchestra and Band, Grades 6 - 8
The Middle School Ensembles are open to students who play any instrument. Currently we have a combined ensemble which meets twice a week during the school day. Music for rehearsal and performance is chosen based on the instrumentation and level of experience of the students in the ensemble. Beginners are welcome, but are strongly encouraged to take private lessons as well. Students at this level will continue to improve their skill on their instruments and in making music together.
High School Band and Orchestra - Grades 9-12
The High School Ensemble, which meets twice a week during the school day, may be taken for ½ academic credit in the Arts. Additional sectional rehearsals may be scheduled as needed. Music for rehearsal and performance is chosen based on the instrumentation and level of experience of the students in the ensemble. Beginners are welcome, but are strongly encouraged to take private lessons as well. Advanced instrumentalists will be have the opportunity to audition for the NH Allstate Music Festival, and all students will be encouraged to pursue musical excellence.
Vocal Opportunities
High School Select Chorus
This group, for the serious singer, is open to any student by audition only and is a graded class. We will be singing challenging, current and original songs, as well as traditional music, madrigals and spirituals. The arrangements we sing will include 4-part harmonies along with polyphonic rhythms. We will perform at two TCCA school concerts per year, Christmas and Spring, plus occasional performance opportunities throughout the school year.
Private and Semi-Private Music Lessons
Private and semi-private lessons are offered at Tri-City Christian Academy on flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone horn, percussion, bass, guitar, violin, viola, cello, piano and voice (depending on student interest and scheduling). Lessons may be held before, during, and after the school day. Contact the school for more information.
