Mrs. Allyson Martin, TCCA second grade teacher since 2022, was born in Massachusetts and has lived in New England all of her life. Even as a child, she was involved in exciting opportunities. She appeared on two television shows, The Uncle Gus Show and Bunker Hill. In 1976, during the nation’s Bicentennial celebration, she was chosen to be the Child of Liberty and marched in the parade at Disneyland. As she grew, Mrs. Martin showed a love of learning and leadership. In high school, she graduated as salutatorian and was deeply involved in her school community. She served as a peer tutor, class officer, and member of student council. She was also editor and chief of the yearbook and participated in the Student Ambassadors Program. One highlight of her high school years was a trip to England and France, which gave her a wider view of the world. During that trip, she even attended a Flower Show with her host family, where she had the privilege of meeting Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother.
Mrs. Martin continued her education in college, where she graduated magna cum laude. While there, she worked as a peer tutor and counselor, helping other students succeed. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Learning Disabilities and Elementary Education from the University of Maine at Farmington. During that time, she spent a summer working at the Spaulding Youth Center with boys who had special needs. Later, she taught 5th grade at the very school she had attended as a child.
Her career has taken her in many meaningful directions. As Director of Activities at a nursing home, Mrs. Martin started the first walking club in the state of Massachusetts and was invited to speak at the State Convention about her work. Years later, she returned to the field as an activities assistant.
Family life has always been the heart of Mrs. Martin’s journey. She has been married for 38 years and homeschooled her 7 children over the course of 26 years. Alongside educating her own children, she also created opportunities for the wider homeschool community. She started and administrated bowling leagues for homeschoolers, “Bowl for the Light” for families, and even organized used curriculum sales for more than a decade. She also launched a driver education program for homeschooled students in Maine and arranged swimming lessons for homeschooled students as well.
Teaching and leadership have remained her lifelong passion. Mrs. Martin created and taught a writing program for 3rd through 6th graders, and she also taught K–12 classes at Prince of Peace School. She served as Director of Vacation Bible School and as head of publicity and registration for Camp Kick-off for many years.
Her dedication extended to private tutoring in math, reading, writing and ESL . One of her students achieved the highest score in the Noble district on the 4th grade Maine state exam—a milestone the student has treasured. Her creativity also led her into clowning, where she brought joy and laughter to birthday parties, promotions, nursing homes, and rest homes.
As second grade teacher at Tri-City Christian Academy, Mrs. Martin continues to inspire young learners. Outside of her professional life, she treasures her faith and family and enjoys telling others about the Lord. She loves spending time with her family, her grandchildren, going on family camping trips, and caring for her cats and dogs. She also has a knack for finding a good bargain!
