Instructor - Science
BS in Chemical Engineering - University of Maine, Orono, ME
MA in Theatre Arts - Northwestern University, Evanston, IL
Joining our faculty in 2011, Mr. John E. Christiansen is a resident of Barrington, having moved there in 2009. Widowed in 2003, John reacquainted with his high school sweetheart, Deanna, in 2007 and they were married by the end of the year. They have been blessed with 9 children and 8 grandchildren between them.
John brings to our school a rich and diverse educational and professional background. As an engineering undergraduate, he worked backstage on productions of the Maine Masque Theatre. In the Spring of 1962 he was the technical director of the university's touring company in India and Pakistan. After receiving his Master's degree in theatre, he served as an observation plane pilot in the U. S. Army, including a tour in Viet Nam. Earning an additional 30 hours of post graduate work at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, he taught technical theatre and communications courses for four years at colleges in Texas and Kansas. Returning to his hometown of Waltham, MA in 1973, Mr. Christiansen spent most of the next 27 years as a technical sales representative for a variety of chemical coatings companies. Traveling upstate New York and New England, he served customers ranging from the paper and textile industries to power and shipbuilding companies. Returning to the field of education in 2000, he taught chemistry and physics at Beverly (MA) High School, and retired in June 2011.
John has been active in several ministries at the churches he has belonged to and has very much enjoyed occasional dramatic and poetic readings with his wife, herself an accomplished poet. John reads widely, mostly history, and is an excellent cook, often using produce from his own garden.
As a part time faculty member, Mr. Christiansen will be teaching a couple of science courses this academic year. "I am delighted to have this opportunity to serve our Lord and the young people of the tri-city area."
